Greenwich
Alive is a multi-arts programme of events that celebrates
the contemporary and classical mix of Greenwich. Launching
in June this year the event has particular resonance as 2007 marks
the 10th anniversary of Greenwich being inscribed by UNESCO as a
World Heritage Site.
Some

Enjoy a full summer's
day and/or evening in Greenwich
While you are in Greenwich
for one of our fantastic summer events, why not stay for the day
and/or evening. There is plenty to see and do. Swing by the Greenwich
Market to buy some lunch treats and then take a short walk to Greenwich
Park for a picnic lunch. Otherwise, enjoy a meal in one of the many
restaurants and cafes that Greenwich has to offer.
There is the
new Peter Harrison Planetarium to visit, the Cutty Sark Pavilion
or old favourites like the Old Royal Naval College, National Maritime
Museum and Queen's House or pick up a leaflet and follow historical
walks*. Make sure you also visit the Rivington Grill to try a limited
edition Greenwich Alive Cocktail!
If you are stuck for ideas, pay a visit to the friendly staff at
the Tourist Information Centre and they will be sure to offer many
interesting suggestions.

She was tiny and tender, but her private life was marked by extraordinary tragedy. Edith Pilaf (1915 - 1963) conveyed French identity to the rest of the world as had no other singer before or after her. Known internationally as the "sparrow of Paris" her voice was in fact strong, expressive and passionate. Her international fame rests on the astounding success of songs like "La vie en rose", "Non, je ne regrette rien", "Mylord" and many others, 30 of which are to be heard in this film. 21st Century Architecture in Greenwich

How do leading contemporary architects create ground-breaking, innovative and exciting projects within a UNESCO World Heritage Site?
Greenwich is currently experiencing an architectural Renaissance with new iconic landmarks juxtaposing with celebrated classical architecture - from London's new planetarium at the Royal Observatory to the Cutty Sark Conservation Project.
Join the architectural teams behind these projects as they discuss their vision together with David Ball Restoration, the leading architectural conservation and restoration specialists responsible for maintaining the Old Royal Naval College and who worked on the care and repair of Nelson's column last year. Peninsula Square is a spectacular new contemporary public space for London, equivalent in size to Leicester Square, with dramatic water features, longitude lines to mark the Greenwich Meridian and a growing 'green' wall, a story wall and stage.

Burning Questions: Model Answers
The simulation of fire and human behaviour |
This years University of Greenwich Annual Lecture will be given by Professor Ed Galea on "Burning questions, model answers: The simulation of fire and human behaviour".
Professor Galea is a life saver - an international expert in fire safety and engineering. He helps design safer buildings, trains, planes and ships by modelling how fires spread and how people behave trying to escape from them. This lively talk promises to be both hard-hitting and entertaining and features Ed's award-winning computer simulation programmes, EXODUS and SMARTFIRE, which are used in over 30 countries around the world.
The software has been used on projects from the Sydney Olympics to the Greenwich Millennium Dome, from the Airbus A380 Super Jumbo to the new Aircraft Carrier for the Royal Navy.

10th Anniversary
2007 marks the 10th Anniversary of Greenwich being inscribed by UNESCO as a
World Heritage Site. In 10 years, Greenwich has developed into a distinctive
cultural hub.
There
are always events going on for all ages and the superb Wren architecture
and distinguished Greenwich Park are the perfect setting. There are also
loads of restaurants, cafes and bars to keep you sustained as you spend
the day in Greenwich.
2007
is also the 10th Anniversary of the Greenwich Foundation.
