Group Visit

Greenwich attracts visitors from every continent and is especially famous as
the home of world time.

  Greenwich Market
Greenwich Market

Standing outside the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Royal Park, the whole of London is spread out before you, an architectural landscape spanning five centuries.

The charming Georgian town centre is full of antique and curio shops and boasts several weekend markets.

Planning a group visit

Here are a few suggestions for planning a group visit:

a Allow at least 60 minutes for each attraction that you plan to visit, longer if including the special exhibitions.

b Confirm any firm arrangements with the attraction. This allows them to plan their day for the comfort of groups of visitors.

c

A river cruise makes a pleasant way of reaching Greenwich (see Travel information).

d Coaches are advised to set down passengers at Charlton Way for the Observatory, or in Stockwell Street in the town centre. From Charlton Way walk through Greenwich Park, admire the panoramic view over London and
descend the hill to the town where the coach can pick up later. Coaches may park at Charlton Way and Norman Road without charge. Click on View Map to see the location of the Coach Stop and Coach Parking.

e We suggest that you select a main attraction to start your visit.
This can be combined with a guided tour or a pre-arranged meal. Most groups will appreciate free time to see another attraction or visit the shops. Greenwich Tourist Information Centre near the Cutty Sark can provide advice and information about local guides, daily events and longer stays.

f Within a short drive are the Thames Barrier, Firepower and the Greenwich Heritage Centre (at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich) and Eltham Palace.

g There are plenty of hotels in Greenwich and Docklands – ideal for a weekend break. The Tourist Information Centre provides a bed and breakfast booking service.

h For the best way to orientate and familiarise yourself with the history of the site head to the Visitor Centre in the Old Royal Naval College grounds. It gives a great bite sized history of the town, especially as birthplace of Henry VIII, Mary Tudor and Elizabeth I. It adjoins Greenwich Tourist Information Centre.
